Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet
The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
