Comeback Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Over Two Years
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
His varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Moutet.
This represents his initial championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.
The win also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive approach and regular outbursts on the playing surface had led some to question if his skill to play at the elite level was finished.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an better serve.
He came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, took control to create a third set.
Moutet saved 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, he clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
